Argentina is going to win the World Cup this year

John O'Brien secures LR5 docking cameraJohn O´ Brien has no doubt in his mind. Neither Denmark nor England has a realistic chance to get far in the tournament.

We are in the British mini submarine LR5, and we are on our way down to a Swedish submarine thirty meters below the surface. The leader of our group is John O´Brien. He is a mine clearance diver for the UK Navy and belongs to the Fleet Diving Unit ll. People like John normally only participate in larger naval exercises, but they are obviously highly skilled.

Before anyone of us has time to think about the action in “The Abyss” and begin to worry about sea monsters and get claustrophobic, the Danish photographer and the diver are in the middle of a football discussion.

The World Cup is only a couple of days away, and when we ask John which team is going to win, he diplomatically suggests Denmark as a potential winner.

We want an honest answer, so we ask again. John now has to think but ends up with Argentina. “Unfortunately, I do not think that England is going to get far in the championship, so it might be Argentina if they get a good start,” he says.

On second thought, I find it quite peculiar to be in a little submarine in the Kattegat discussing football as nothing special happens outside.

I think it gives a good picture of the professionalism those men possess when the diver quite relaxed sits here and discusses football while we are descending to a Swedish submarine.

When the Premier League is mentioned John applies that his favourite team in the UK is Hull City, and when we find out that Jan Moelby is their coach, we are all interested in Hull City.

By the way, it was a great experience with a lot of information about the LR5 and the Swedish submarine. But I really think that it was a special experience to sit in a cigar-shaped cylinder and talk to a British diver about a 3rd Division team, Jan Moelby, and the World Cup all while sitting at the bottom of Kattegat.

But anyway, I believe Zidane & Co will win this year.
