INTEGRATED NAVIGATION & TRACKING SYSTEM - (INTO)

Home

Integrated Navigation & Tracking SystemAt the scene of the DISSUB the INTO system enhances the co-ordination of the rescue effort by providing an underwater tracking picture of all the assets involved, as each asset is fitted with its own transponder.  The INTO system uses Contact Marking System (CMS) software which displays the underwater assets on an electronic background.  This allows ranges and bearings between assets to be easily displayed.  It is also possible to underlay the the background with charts if required.

Radio Operator communicates with the LR5The system works by interpreting inputted data from the Mother Ship’s own sonar tracing system.  If the MOSHIP does not have its own dedicated sonar tracking system a portable military sonar system can be deployed.  This portable system is called  Sonar 2059.  The INTO system also receives inputs from the GPS and the ships heading system that enables the software to provide a very accurate real time underwater picture.  This can be displayed  throughout the MOSHIP.  It can also be be transmitted via a radio link to a sister MOSHIP.  The system is provided by Kongsberg Simrad Ltd, based in Hampshire, England.
