Landsmen at Sea

Sunday morning the 26th of May a small group of journalists, photographers and people from the Allied Press- and Information Centre (APIC) were on their way to visit the Swedish support ship BELOS.

As soon as we departed from the naval base the first event took place. One of the photographers was enjoying the view of the naval base when most of us saw his cap being lifted off and “thrown” far out in the stern wave of the ship.

Nobody laughed but the smiles were a bit bigger after that introductory sight.

When HAVKATTEN had transported us safely out to BELOS there was a little excitement again. We were going to be transferred to BELOS by a small rubber dinghy. But before that everybody had to be dressed in orange survivalsuits.

As the pictures might show you most of the visitors were also quite concentrated during the transfer. But the sailing and the ascent to BELOS via a ladder was carried through without any “episodes”.

Immediately after the safety briefing for all guests onboard the lunch was served in the cafeteria.

In the cafeteria there was a lot of people, lots of food and pretty hot. Helle, our journalist from the APIC was the first to notice. She began to feel uncomfortable and her stomach was “lively”. From the more experienced officers there were several good advises to cure such a problem.
The Pakistani officers suggested that Helle should take a slice of lemon and eat it. The American officer was a bit more conventional and offered Helle some pills against seasickness. The Norwegian officer suggested Helle to go out and get some fresh air.

And Helle did the right thing for such a situation: She ate a slice of lemon, took two pills and went outside to sit down for a while.
That helped and soon Helle was all right again.

Hereafter the rest of the day passed without further problems.
