PRE-SAIL CONFERENCE SORBET ROYAL 2002

NAVAL BASE FREDERIKSHAVN, DENMARK - All the key players were in place for the official kick-off to SORBET ROYAL 2002 (SR02) with a pre-sail conference on Monday, May 20. Participants from nine NATO nations and one Partnership for Peace nation, Sweden attended the morning briefing.
Admiral Danish Fleet Rear Admiral Tim Sloth Jorgensen started the morning off by welcoming everyone to Denmark and the Naval Base. "SR02 is the fifth Submarine Search and Rescue exercise to be conduct and the first to be observed by non-NATO countries," said Jorgensen.
Exercise Director and Chief of Staff U.S. Navy Capt. Chris Klyne: "While participating and observing the exercise, I have three points I want everyone to walk away with, One, the emphasis we are focusing on the next two weeks is saving lives; two, we had the tools to do this type of mission and we will do so when we are called to do it; and last, now is the time to forge bonds, gain confidence in each other and to correct any issues we may come upon during the exercise."

SORBET ROYAL 2002 OBSERVERS RECEIVE BASE TOUR
Sorbet Royal exercise observers from Australia, the Republic of China, India, Japan, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, and the Ukraine took a tour of Naval Base Frederikshavn after the start of the pre-sail conference. The Chief of Visitors and Observers Bureau Admiral Danish Fleet CDR Jens Hulgaard took the group to the base piers to show them the ships and equipment that will be used during the exercise.
