As a part of the final exercise day of Sorbet Royal 2002, LR-5 and the UK Submarine Rescue Service deployed onboard Geofjord operated in exercise areas of the Kattegat, Denmark.

The Distinguished Visitors Day encompassed an overview of the operations taking place throughout Exercise Sorbet Royal 2002.

Rear Admiral Niall Kilgour UKN, COMSUBEASTLANT and the Officer Conducting the Exercise (OCE) visited Sorbet Royal 2002, the largest ever Submarine Escape and Rescue exercise ever conducted. 

 

 

 

27 May 2002

Today a Hercules aeroplane visited Exercise Sorbet Royal. Its cargo was ten special trained parachuters from the UK. They jumped from 1200 feet in the target area, 12 NM off the coast of Frederikshavn.

Having earlier deployed the URF Vehicle from Belos, a wet Bell was later lowered into the water so that divers could check the hatches of the 'stricken' submarine on the sea bed.

Observers to Sorbet Royal 02 joined the Tyr via a rigid inflatable boat.

The U.S. ship DOLORES CHOUEST returns to the Navy base for a day.

Frederikshavn Military Naval Base, Denmark was buzzing with activity with all the various vessels taking part in Exercise Sorbet Royal 2002 make preparations for the forthcoming exercise taking place between 21st- 23rd May 2002 in the waters of Katttegat outside Fredrikshavn.
