Sorbet Royal 2000

The predecessor exercise was carried out in the Bay of Mersin, Turkey.  The exercise was planned for 1999 however, in August 1999 the devastating earthquake in Turkey and the tragic loss of so many lives required a postponement to 2000.

Medical officers and representatives from many nations all over the world were there to observe the exercise activities.

Sorbet Royal 1996

The exercise was carried out in Norway, in the Vestfjorden area.  It was the largest NATO sponsored submarine escape and rescue exercise ever and included the participation of 6 submarines and several rescue systems.

As Sorbet Royal 96 was one of the first NATO maritime exercises open for Partner participation, Sweden participated actively with the submarine Vastergotland and the Rescue Vehicle URF, embarked in the Submarine Rescue Ship Belos.

NATO nations sent 4 conventional submarines as DISSUB's and the United States sent one nuclear powered submarine as a mother submarine for the DSRV into the Vestfjord.
